The "Tuko Sauti Tuko Safe" event is strategically designed to address the pressing need for GBV awareness and prevention within academic institutions, recognizing the unique position of students.
Blueprint of Precision.
How we orchestrated TUKO SAFE TUKO SAWA GBV AWARENESS from conception to reality.
Preparation
BUCCUSA established organizing committees and coordinated with Musakasa TTI to host the event. We proactively engaged the Bungoma County Ministry of Health and student leaders to ensure a multi-sectoral approach from the initial setup phase.
Core Strategy
We utilized a collaborative strategy, partnering with NGOs and county departments to create a "united front". A key focus was promoting "positive masculinity" to engage male students as active allies in challenging harmful, deep-seated gender norms. TRAINING OF LOCAL SPEAKERS,

Aims & Impact.
The Aims
"EMPOWERING STUDENT VOICES PROMOTING POSITIVE MASCULINITY STRENGTHENING PEER SUPPORT "
Direct Impact
The event reached over 1,000 students, resulting in an anticipated 20% increase in awareness. We established robust peer support networks and created clearer, visible linkages between students and essential medical or legal aid services in Bungoma.
Hurdles & Victory.
Challenges Faced
Stigma remains a major hurdle, as many students are vulnerable yet hesitant to speak out or report incidents. Integrating complex GBV prevention into busy academic schedules across Bungoma’s diverse colleges required innovative and persistent coordination.
How we conquered
We overcame barriers by forming a united front between students, government bodies, and NGOs. By developing a documented action plan and fostering peer advocacy, we ensured a commitment to eradicating GBV in Bungoma County once and for all.
